Tom graduated from Virginia Tech in 1975 with a BA in Business Administration. While at Tech, he was nurtured by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship and joined their staff upon graduation, serving the Vanderbilt campus in Nashville from 1975 - 1978. Having benefited from the works of men like J. I. Packer and John Stott, Tom earned a Masters of Divinity at Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia from 1978 - 1982. Part-time work in small group ministry at Chelten (Conservative) Baptist Church convinced him that the church was his calling. In 1981, the Tabernacle Church of Norfolk (where Tom grew up) began a work on the Peninsula and called him to pastor the church planting effort.
Tom, his wife, Mabel, and their four children have been with the Chapel since its inception in 1981.
The focus of the senior pastor is on leadership development (elders, staff, home groups, and other ministry leaders). Teaching the Word, outreach opportunities, and developing a Christian worldview are other ministry passions.

Matt Sowada
director of student ministries
Matt is responsible for both the junior and senior high ministries at PCC,
grades 6-12. Both Matt and his wife, Robyn, graduated from JMU in
1999. While Matt was working on his degree in Kinesiology (Phys Ed.
Specialization), he spent the majority of his time serving with Young Life,
loving junior high students at a middle school outside of Harrisonburg. After their college
graduation, Matt and Robyn began their long journey to the Peninsula, which
took them through Denton, Texas. While in Texas, Matt spent several more years on both
sides of a classroom desk, as both a teacher and a student. He taught in
both 5th and 6th grades (various subjects) and attended
Dallas Theological Seminary where he received a Masters in Christian Education,
graduating May 2007. After spending seven years at Denton Bible Church (as a volunteer and on staff in Student Ministry), Matt moved back to Virginia to join PCC's
staff in March of 2006.
Matt and Robyn (married in July 2000) have 2 kids -- one son, Caden (born
May 2006) and a golden retriever, Ember. In his spare time, Matt enjoys
relaxing with Robyn, sports (both watching and playing them), movies, and
playing with Ember. He is passionate about God, His Word, and the Redskins and
enjoys seeing students "get it."

David Taylor
chapel administrator
David started attending PCC back in the late 1980s while working
for a local architectural firm after graduating from James Madison
University with a BFA. He met his wife, Laura, at PCC and together
they began to explore the possibility of world missions. In 1998,
David & Laura moved to Geneva,
Switzerland with their two young sons, Hayden & Corbin, to work
with Youth for Christ and its outreach to international students
and their families. During the almost eight years that they lived
in Geneva, David also took on a role, with a church in the inner
city of Geneva, that evolved from youth pastor to assistant pastor
with direct leadership in youth, young adults, worship and administration.
The family returned to the US in the late summer of 2005.
David joined the staff full-time in May 2006 and is responsible for church
administration, facilities and is one of the regular worship leaders at the
church. David grew up in York County, less than a mile from PCC.
